This 44 year-old woman was referred by her Calabasas physician for Mohs micrographic surgery of a basal cell carcinoma on her left lateral lower eyelid.
The skin cancer was removed in a two-stage procedure, and the surgical defect measured 1.4 x 1.0 cm. The wound was reconstructed with a side-to-side (complex) closure in order to achieve maximum cosmetic and functional repair. The wound was lengthened (i.e. two darts of tissue removed) so that the final healed incision line would be flat, well healed and without protrusion of soft tissue.
