This 65 year-old man from San Fernando Valley presented for hair restoration surgery. He was primarily interested in adding coverage and density to the anterior portion of the scalp, where his hair loss was most significant. He did not use Rogaine or Propecia. We discussed various treatment options, and he was considered an excellent candidate. Some of the features that made him a very good candidate for surgery included salt-and-pepper color to his hair (decreases contrast between skin and hair), coarseness to his hair (more complete coverage), good donor density (i.e. high number of hairs/inch on the back of his scalp), and realistic expectations (he had conservative goals and desired a hairline and density appropriate for his age and other physical characteristics).
The patient underwent hair restoration surgeries and received a total of 470 minigrafts and 530 micrografts. The patient was very pleased with the results, noting the natural appearance to the hairline and the excellent coverage over the balding area.
