“State-of-the-Art” Solution for Hair Loss in Central and Southern California
To many, a full head of hair represents attractiveness and desirability both personally and professionally.
The facts are that a majority of men and women are effected by male or female pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). Many avoid surgery (or are not candidates for) the traditional “strip method” of hair replacement surgery. The “strip method” entails the removal of a strip from the donor site (generally the back or sides of the head). The donor site is closed with sutures or surgical staples, and the strip is dissected in smaller “grafts” consisting of follicular units. This is how most hair transplant surgery had been performed during the last 25 or more years, but it was not a perfect solution. Closure of the donor site under tension leaves a long linear scar; sometimes this scar heals imperceptibly and sometimes it might widen or become more noticeable especially if the patient cuts his/her hair short or in some activities (e.g. swimming). Also, the tension caused by closure of the wound could be a major cause of discomfort for some patients, and some patients would complain of persistent numbness in the area. Sutures would need to be left in for 10-14 days and activities were frequently limited. At the same time the “strip method” works well for many patients and doctors and was certainly an improvement in the prior technique of hair restoration surgery, which entailed removing larger individual grafts and did not provide the consistent cosmetic results that transplantation with follicular units can provide.
The Center for Dermatology Care is excited to announce a new solution for hair loss, NeoGraft®. This game-changing technology automates the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method to give men and women a more natural looking result with minimal downtime, no linear scarring and no stitches.
The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplant is a minimally invasive procedure, in which the grafts from the back of the head (donor area) are harvested individually and then placed in the thinning or balding areas on the top of the head. Unlike the strip method which requires the physician to surgically cut and remove a strip of the scalp from the back of the head, dissect the strip into and implant it to the balding areas, the high-tech NeoGraft FUE device extracts follicular units and prepares them in for repositioning in thinning areas.
Why Choose the NeoGraft Method of Restoration?
- Minimal discomfort
- No scalpel incision
- No sutures or staples
- A less invasive procedure
- No linear scar
- Less risk of numbness
- Able to tailor procedure to different hair styles
- Little risk of complications
- Fewer activity limitations

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main benefits of FUE over the traditional “Strip Method” or linear harvesting? Many hair restoration doctors and patients have found that donor sites from FUE transplants can heal faster and more comfortably than linear-harvest techniques in which the physician uses a scalpel and removes a strip of scalp requiring stitches or staples. With NeoGraft FUE, the patient can return to work in a couple of days. The patient has the option of wearing a very short haircut without the worry of a tell-tale linear scar. Without the need for stitches, downtime is shorter with fewer activity restrictions post-operatively. No surgical procedure can say that they are “scarless” or that there is “no scar.” The difference is that rather than a long linear scar running from ear to ear, the tiny circular scars from FUE are less than 1 mm in diameter (1/25 of an inch) and are scattered across the donor site, making them less noticeable.
Who is a good candidate for FUE using NeoGraft™?Patients who want to avoid a long linear scar or prefer to have the option to wear a shorter haircut and patients who prefer a quicker recover and less activity restriction may be good candidates for FUE with NeoGraft™.
What are the major cost differences between FUE and linear-harvest hair transplant procedures?Generally, the costs are similar to hair restoration with linear strip harvesting. Rather than remove a strip of hair and then dissect the strip into follicular units, the grafts in NeoGraft and FUE are removed individually.
Are the final transplanted ‘results’ any different with FUE/NeoGraft™ than those achieved with linear harvesting? Results are similar. FUE procedures, by default, yield grafts that contain mainly one, two, or three follicles called “follicular units.” Strips or linear harvests are removed from the back of the scalp and are then dissected by a team into grafts of one, two or three follicles. Provided that in each case the grafts are implanted with care, artistry and precision into the recipient area, the final transplanted results with FUE would be similar, if not identical, to those accomplished with a linear harvest. The difference is not in the ultimate results but rather how the donor area is harvested (i.e. strip vs. small individual graft extractions). With FUE, there is no linear scar.
Is FUE/NeoGraft™ suitable for both men and women?Yes. FUE with NeoGraft™ may be a good option for both men and women looking to restore their own living and growing hair with hair restoration surgery.
Am I a good candidate for a procedure using FUE/NeoGraft?The best way to determine whether you are a good candidate for FUE and NeoGraft is a consultation with Dr. Kaufman to discuss both the surgical and medical ways to improve your specific hair loss situation.
