LED LIGHT THERAPY: What you need to know!
WHAT IS IT?
NASA and the Navy Seals have used LED light therapy for muscle regeneration and to speed up the healing of wounds. This technology is now being used as a painless, effective anti-aging treatment in skincare. Michelle Williams, Sofia Coppola, and Rachel Weisz go to Joanna Vargas, founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection, for her famous LED light therapy facials. In fact, Vargas has also created an LED light therapy bed that has been dubbed “The Time Machine” because it reverses the signs of aging from head to toe.
LED, which stands for Light Emitting Diode, is a light treatment, not to be confused with a laser treatment, and is also referred to as LED red light, LED blue light. “LED light therapy is simply the best thing that has ever happened in the beauty industry. It builds collagen in quantifiable percentages, corrects surface damage like sun damage, wrinkles, and large pores. These were all issues that could only previously be corrected with a laser or chemical peel. But now I can give my clients a series of LED light therapy facials without any side effects and see significant results.
LED light therapy is a noninvasive anti-aging approach that works by emitting energy-producing
packets of light deep into the skin’s layers to stimulate collagen and elastin production and destroy acne-causing bacteria. Cells in the human body convert light into ATP, which is the fuel that powers life on a cellular level. Plant cells have a similar process called photosynthesis that develops chlorophyll, their fuel for life. When light therapy is used, this triggers cellular activity producing ATP and, once produced, the tissue uses it to carry out healing and rejuvenation in the treated area. LED light therapy is often used in combination with chemical peels, medical facials, microdermabrasion, and laser treatments to further enhance treatment results.
WHO IS IT FOR?
LED light therapy is great for anyone who wants to improve the overall appearance of their skin, no matter how old they are. Whether your treatment is for Acne, Anti-Aging or Wound Healing, it’s safe and effective for all skin types and skin colors. As always, discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities with your cosmetic doctor or aesthetician before starting a treatment.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
Get ready to relax because this is a painless process, especially when combined with the luxurious Classic European facial. During an LED light therapy skin treatment, a panel of gentle light is held right above your skin while you wear a protective cover over your eyes. The only thing you can do is close your eyes and drift off to sleep.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
ARE THERE IMMEDIATE SIDE EFFECTS?
Unlike Clear + Brilliant and photorejuvenation (IPL) treatments, which produce similar results,
LED light therapy poses no risk of burning because the light-energy doesn’t actually heat up the skin. That’s why LED light therapy is so low-risk and beloved by the pros. Since there is no thermal damage, there’s also no risk of scarring or discoloration. There’s no downtime, so you can return to normal activity right away.
WHAT ARE THE ANTICIPATED RESULTS?
In most cases, you’ll see immediate improvements after only one treatment. Your skin will appear more plump and radiant, and any redness or irritation is calmed. Results are cumulative, so more noticeable improvements are usually achieved in 6 to 10 LED light therapy treatments.
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED COURSE OF TREATMENT FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS?
If you’re looking to use LED light therapy to really smooth, firm, tighten, and clear up your skin, the recommended protocol is 6 to 10 treatments a week or two apart, followed by a maintenance treatment every 2 months.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
$110 per session – less when purchased in a package or with a Chemical Peel Package.
When LED light therapy is used in conjunction after other treatments, such as chemical peels, and microdermabrasion, it can really help maximize results.
LED light therapy is proven to reduce scarring, bruising, and the downtime associated with surgical procedures.
If NASA uses LED light therapy to heal wounds in space and on earth, imagine what it can do for your skin…!
