Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy for Treating Hair Loss

Conveniently located to serve Carpinteria, and Santa Barbara

For a large population of people, hair loss is an unavoidable part of life that causes a great deal of stress and a significant loss in confidence. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with this problem for the rest of your life. if you’re tired of feeling self-conscious about the amount of hair you have, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy for hair loss can help solve your problem.

Also called PRP, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is an effective solution that can help men and women stop hair loss and achieve a fuller, thicker head of hair. This treatment is another tool that can successfully stimulate hair growth and proactively counter the effects of hair loss, also known as androgenic alopecia.

Treating Hair Loss

PRP is a non-surgical option that’s effective in combating hair loss. Hair loss may be caused by many different issues such as genetics and even stress, and PRP can be an effective solution regardless of the cause. Clinical studies have proven it to be an effective treatment option that provides consistent patient satisfaction.

How Does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Work?

Platelet-rich plasma contains between three and five times the normal quantity of platelets in the blood. During a Platelet Rich Plasma treatment, platelet-rich plasma is prepared by drawing blood from the patient. The blood sample is then run through a centrifuge for about six minutes and then experiences a second centrifugation for about fifteen minutes. This separates the platelets from the blood.

The bioactive proteins in the plasma, including VEGF, or vascular endothelial growth factor; DGF, or platelet-derived growth factor; as well as TGF, or transforming growth factor (TGF), stimulates the healing of any wounds and is involved with hair growth cycles as well.

Hair follicles are very intricate structures that are regulated by growth cycles. The platelet-rich plasma is packed with stem cells that stimulate hair follicle growth cycles. The action of the growth factors promotes localized cell growth as well as angiogenesis.

Typically, significant hair loss begins to show between the first and fourth treatments. Patients show improved hair follicular unit count.

Who Should Get Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?

Though hair loss is an issue that affects men more consistently than women, PRP therapy is an effective treatment for men and women who have experienced alopecia. Hair loss has been shown to lead to psychological distress and is often tied to issues like low self-esteem and even depression.

Commonly, hair loss begins at the age of 20 and is known to impact nearly 50% of males by the time they are 50. Studies have indicated that genetics and hormonal shifts with testosterone are tied to hair loss.

Traditionally, there have been limited hair-restoration treatment options that have provided satisfying results. With PRP, there is an effective non-surgical hair restoration option that is FDA approved.

This treatment is a relatively simple and cost-effective solution that has been clinically shown to provide satisfying results.

How Much Does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Cost?

Every patient is different and requires a unique approach to solving each individual’s problem.
