Botox Cosmetic Dysport
Conveniently located to serve Thousand Oaks, Carpinteria, and Santa Barbara
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified form of the botulism toxin (onabotulinumtoxinA) approved by the FDA to smooth out and soften vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows. However, physicians may also use Botox Cosmetic injections to treat other dynamic wrinkles, including crow’s feet and horizontal forehead furrows. It can also give a subtle lift to the brow, as well as soften platysmal bands in the neck. At The Center for Dermatology Care, we treat women and men from Thousand Oaks, Ventura and Oxnard who choose Botox Cosmetic for soft, natural looking correction of these concerns.
Dysport™ is another injectable form of the botulism toxin (abobotulinumtoxinA) that is used in the same way as Botox Cosmetic. Dysport takes effect slightly quicker, and in some patients may produce longer-lasting results. The cost of the two products is comparable so the decision as to which product to use is determined between patient and physician.
At The Center for Dermatology Care in Thousand Oaks, we offer both Dysport and Botox Cosmetic to meet the different wants and needs of our patients. How Botox Cosmetic and Dysport Work
Dynamic wrinkles are those that are caused by repeated facial expressions, and they include smile lines, frown lines, brow furrows and crow’s feet. Every time you make a certain facial expressions, the skin creases in the same places, and that repetitive motion will eventually result in wrinkles that become etched in your skin. The chemical produced by the botulism bacterium blocks nerve impulses to muscles, causing them to relax. This causes the dynamic wrinkles to soften and fade, or even disappear altogether.
Prior to its cosmetic uses, Botox Cosmetic has been safely used since 1980 for the treatment of strabismus (lazy eye) and blepharospasm (uncontrolled eye blinking/eyelid spasm). Dysport has been used outside the United States for more than 15 years in the treatment of neurological disorders. Neither treatment is intended for use in patients over 65 years old, or who have had an allergic reaction to any botulinum toxin product.
The injection treatment takes only a few minutes, with Botox Cosmetic results beginning to show in 4 to 7 days, and Dysport results emerging 1 or 2 days earlier. Gradually, the effect will fade and the muscle action will return. Botox Cosmetic results typically last 3 to 4 months and some studies indicate that Dysport results may last 6 months or longer. When the wrinkles start to reappear, a simple repeat treatment can restore results. Regular use of these injectables may work to prolong their results.
