This 38 year-old man from San Fernando Valley presented for consultation regarding hair restoration surgery. He did not want to use Rogaine or Propecia and preferred a surgical option. On examination he had fairly extensive hair loss (Hamilton 5 anterior) with much of the loss focused on the anterior scalp. His donor area in the occipital and temporal scalps had good density. We discussed treatment options, and he chose to undergo hair restoration surgery.
The patient received a total of 800 grafts, consisting of approximately 350 micrografts and 450 minigrafts. All grafts contained 4 or less follicles per graft. The smaller grafts (micrografts) were used to create the hairline and the slightly larger grafts (minigrafts) helped give more density to his hair. The patient was very happy with the results which provided a mature appearing hairline, appropriate for his age now and in the future, and fullness and density to his hair that he had lost years before.
