This 49 year-old man from southern California presented to the Center for Dermatology Care in Thousand Oaks for correction of a hair transplant surgery done 2 years earlier. The patient had a hair transplant by a Plastic Surgeon, who also performed a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) at the same time that the hair transplant was performed. We discussed correction of the prior surgical result, which would entail removal of the grafts placed too low and placement of these grafts in the frontal scalp in addition to adding more grafts in the frontal scalp.
The patient underwent three procedures during which the previously placed large grafts were removed and placed in the frontal scalp. Each graft site was sutured closed. A total of 450 mini and micrografts were place in the frontal scalp and along the frontal hairline. Erbium YAG laser resurfacing was used to soften some of the resulting scars on the forehead, and the patient was very pleased with the results. He had an appropriate level of his hairline and much greater density in his thinning scalp.
