This 44 year-old man was referred by The Learning Channel for treatment of the signs associated with aging. The patient had requested to participate in their television series “Ten Years Younger,” in which men and woman see a physician for treatment of wrinkles, pigmentation, skin changes associated with sun damage and aging. This man was bothered by his acne scarring and premature aged appearance. The Learning Channel referred the man to the Center for Dermatology Care for discussion about treatment options and his treatment. To participate in this series, the procedures done would have to be completely healed in ten days at which time he would be filmed for his final appearance.
The man had brown, blotchy pigmentation over his cheeks, forehead and around his eyes. He had acne scarring on his cheeks and wrinkles and fullness over his lower eyelids.
He was begun on a topical skin care regimen and three weeks later underwent a laser resurfacing procedure around his eyes and a medium depth chemical peel over the remainder of his face. An erbium YAg laser was used to precisely resurface the skin around his eyes, softening fine lines and removing pigmentation. The medium depth chemical peel consisted of glycolic acid followed by 35% trichloroacetic acid. The patient healed without problem and was able to film the final session of his episode, demonstrating improvement in sun damage and aged skin. He was very pleased with the final results.
